Building cities that are sustainable, resilient, and inclusive
The Green Cities Project is an initiative of the Sustainable Development Council (SDC) focused on advancing sustainable urban development in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 11.
The initiative works with city governments, urban planners, community organizations, and development partners to promote green infrastructure, climate resilience, and inclusive urban planning.
Through research, pilot projects, policy advocacy, and community engagement, the Green Cities Project supports the transition toward urban environments that are environmentally sustainable, socially inclusive, and economically vibrant.
Recognized with Special Consultative Status by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) from 2021.
The Green Cities Project promotes integrated approaches to urban development that balance environmental protection, social inclusion, and economic opportunity.
SDC works with local governments and communities to implement green infrastructure projects, promote sustainable transportation, and support waste management and resource efficiency initiatives.
The initiative also contributes to policy dialogue on sustainable urbanization, advocating for planning frameworks that prioritize climate resilience, community participation, and long-term environmental sustainability.
